Special Invitation From Cardinal Roger Mahony

With the January anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court Decision, pro-life events take place across our nation. On January 24th at 6:00 pm, we will gather in our Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels with the Auxiliary Bishops, priests, deacons, religious and faithful. We celebrate a very special Mass, the Shantigarh Requiem for the Unborn. It is a wonderful way for our people come together in prayer and in mutual support for protecting all unborn life

Before the close of the Mass, we experience a moving ceremony during which members of the assembly bring forward candles – one candle for each life lost to abortion that day in the County of Los Angeles. Honoring these brief lives is a particularly poignant and inspiring moment in this liturgy, the memory of which will remain with you long after all have returned home.

It is my hope that you will join me for this liturgy and that you will strongly encourage your family, friends and parish communities to attend. Indeed, you might wish to come as a group, perhaps with another parish community in your area. The details are as follows:

Date: Saturday, January 24, 2009
Time: 6:00 p.m.
Place: Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, 555 W. Temple St., Los Angeles
(A discounted parking rate of $5 per car will be in effect for the event;
carpooling encouraged; traveling via Metro, use Civic Center Stop)

Sample bulletin announcements and flyer follow.
